Smart people playing a board game. I know you don't necessarily have to be smart to play well, but I think it's just ingrained into our society that people who play chess are smart.
What comes to mind with chess?

It is an addiction. We play on regardless of how many times we make the same mistakes, complain when we blunder, hate losing, not willing to put in the extreme effort it takes to beat 2600 players. We should all be GMs by now.
