What does bump mean?

I keep on seeing it and have no clue what it is.
It just means liek to get the thread towards the top of the forum area in off topic forums
People say it when they "bump" a thread to the top of the first page.
Bumping the thread means you are bringing an old thread back to life.
Bump means a raised surface above the rest. Sorta like hump.

When you post on a thread, it is automatically brought on the first page. Saying "bump" is commenting just to remind others of a thread.
