🥴What is Attention-Seeking?

I am seeking your attention currently by writing this post, this is true. However, not all forms of attention-seeking are created equally. I will categorize it into 2: Positive or Negative attention seeking. Positive attention seeking is when you feel like you have something valuable to offer someone else in exchange for their attention. An example is this thread - It's an idea that gives YOU value for your attention. Negative attention seeking is the opposite. It is click-bait, false pretenses, low-value, compliment-fishing, ego-driven narcissistic behavior. People who do the latter will defend themselves by equating their behavior with the former. Watch for this. Disclaimer: this thread is a general concept and not intended to be directed towards any specific individual.

Thanks for the post! I agree.

Negative attention seeking is what we're concerned about ,at most if people want to really contribute to something , they do it regardless of whether they get attention for it or not .

I do agree with you. This it a huge problem on otf, and I wish that people think before clicking “post” more often.

Attention-Seekers include all of the "I'm leaving soon"//"I'm closing soon"//"it's my birthday" posts//, not to mention various other attention-seeking titled posts by infamous Forumers like WOOLLY, et. al

Avatar of Got-Dead

attention seeking is posting something so outrageously stupid that people will have to respond, making it into an argument, and therefore getting more posts

Avatar of OneThousandEightHundred18

It is worth noting that my 2 categories themselves could be broken down further

An example of this is the "looking for a gf" thread, there are over 800 comments either roasting OP or complaining about people bumping it, when it should have been left on maybe a few comments max, preferably left ignored.

Avatar of hashbrowninator

No way that thread reached 800- what have we come to...

Avatar of ThePersonAboveYou

the attention seeking is driven by the intention not what the posts make of it. We all want attention anyway just some express that more than others

I think birthday seeking is not that much attention seeking

I would celebrate someone’s birthday and it wouldn’t be spam-able since it’s once per year lol
