I am plagued by philosophical thoughts that will not leave me at peace. One of these such thoughts is not new by any definition of the word, but it has struck me harder than most of these thoughts usually do.
It seems that people go through life as if it is a distraction; as if the mere fact that they exist in a somewhat happy state is all that matters. This lead me to ponder: What inclines a human to exist and continue living? Of course, I am aware of neurotransmitters and the reward system of the brain, but surely if one understands that concept, he or she realizes that it will all end.
One way to explain this is through religion and the idea of an afterlife. Although this is a legitimate reason to continue living, not everyone who continues living is religious. It cannot serve as an adequate explanation.
So, why is it that people who completely understand the nature of finite pleasure opt to continue living and seeking that pleasure? It seems to me that nihilism is the most logical standpoint, be it the standpoint that I fail to hold. What other reasons can the chess community, one that I am sure has a high population of philosophical thinkers, provide for me?
Being stuck in the middle of Iowa in winter is enough to depress anybody.
However, spring is coming. It looks like your weather will be nice and reach the 60's by midweek.
Before long, you will have tornadoes to look forward to.
