My question is what is, what do you live for.
I guess, in there, you said that you live for yourself, and to have fun.
Is that correct?
What is your purpose in life?

I do have to say that your belief about our purpose is the easiest one that their is, because there is no commitment, action, or faith required.
Many people say that, because it is the easiest possible standard they can set for themselves.
I ask though, if you really believe that, then how do you not become hopeless?
If their is no purpose, then each of us lives for ourselves; we have no reason to do good to others, unless doing so will help us gain their trust so that we will be able to use them in the future for our purposes.
This means that morality is not real: rather it is a made up idea that is upheld by people in power, in order that we might follow it, and the government(s) can use us for whatever they want to do, for their own benefit.
It means that no one in the government, or anywhere else, cares about you; you are utterly alone.
I am utterly alone.
And it means that if someone does care about someone else, it is a huge mistake.
If someone makes the mistake of caring for me, I should use that to help myself.
In fact, I should trick people into trusting me, so that I can use them.

I believe that we should obey the law, but I have religious reasons for believing that.
Why do you believe we should obey the law?
If we are all for ourselves, then why should we trust those in power? They just want to use us.

@llamonade:
I know your point of view. I sometimes start thinking like that myself.
But I disagree with the implication that all people who don't look at things the way you do are just wanting a warm fuzzy feeling. Many do, but many don't.
And actually, what I believe about my purpose leaves me with responsibility, which is not easy.
Your description is actually a lot easier to believe, because it requires no commitment, and no effort on your part.
This is all my humble opinion, so take it as such
Characterizing it as easier or harder doesn't make much sense to me, how is one easier than the other? In any case truth isn't based on difficulty level, truth is simply the way things are.
By the way, thanks for your respectful reply.

Yes, I agree with you that easier and harder do not change what the truth is.
I could be told that I am a great person, or I could be told that I am slacking at my job, and need to work harder. One of those is easier to believe than the other, but either of them (or even both of them) could be true.
About some beliefs being easier to believe than others; I think that last example also shows this.
"I am a good person", is a statement that is often shallow and not very personal. Part of what makes it shallow (IMHO) is the fact that it doesn't really affect anything for me; I can hear it, believe it, and go on with life, without any change. It s a belief that is as well forgotten as remembered, if you know what I mean. I can subconsciously believe it, because it means nothing.
Now if I hear my boss say that I am slacking at my job, and need to pick up the pace, my first response would probably be anger. In fact, the more true I already know that is, the more angry I am likely to be. This is because I have probably known this subconsciously for a while, but have been denying it; when it is finally said out loud to me, I feel I have to argue loudly and adamantly, not just to prove to my boss that it isn't true, but also to assure myself.
And the reason I am so against believing this last truth, is that it involves responsibility. It is a belief that requires action, and because of that, people, who want to do what they feel like and have no obligations, try to ignore, avoid, or flatly deny it.
Are their places in our lives that are like that?
If so, we need to stop trying to defend and justify ourselves, and admit the truth.
I find that most times I find myself very mad at something someone says, or very defensive at an idea, it is because there is at least some truth in it.
So while being easy, or being hard does not affect what is truth, we need to be careful to look at the reasons we believe things. If I believe that I am a good person, and not that I am a slacker, I need to look very carefully to see why I actually believe that. When the choice is easy, or hard, and I have chosen easy, I need to be very sure that the evidence actually supports the easy choice, and I am not choosing it only because it is easy.
I hope that all makes sense,
Mikhail

There’s this guy that I always see. He’s always peeping around corners and hanging around in the next room over where I eat lunch, and he looks kinda shady. It’s kind of awkward and stalkerish, and I legitimately don’t know why he’s doing this. What should I do?

@hitthepin: does this guy look at you, or other people?
Because unless this involves you or anyone you specifically know you can help, I doubt there will be much benefit in thinking too much about it.

If there is a possibility that he is a threat to someone (which is very unlikely, in my opinion), a very easy thing to do is just ask various people around you what he is doing, or who he is. You might get some answers, and you can raise the general awareness about what is happening.

No, just me and my friends. I don't think he's a threat. He just, you know, watches us all.
Alright. I'll ask people about him. I don't even think anyone notices him other than me.
There is no purpose! As far as we've been able to deduce, it's all just random accident. Just because you understand a meaning for the word 'purpose', doesn't mean that any purpose actually exists or was intended for you. We don't know what any of this is about, but we can be fairly certain that it has nothing to do with any kind of greater meaning or significance for any of us. By pure chance and accident, we ended up being intelligent apes who conceived of words such as "purpose". This in no way means that any such purpose exists. My advice: Make the most your existence; there is no point in wondering about anything else. Respect the (man-made) Law, since that is in all likelihood, it will be the most you will be adjudged by.
