What chess players don't like music?!
Listening to Everything is Broken - Bob Dylan
Being an old hippie I love the old classic rock. Beatles, led zep, hendrix, skynard
For relaxing maybe soft jazz like Davis's - Kinda blue - or some ambient music
For going crazy then some Sun Ra or Beefheart
Pop & Rock from the '50's thru the '80's.
My big love is show tunes with witty lyrics ("Why can't a woman be more like a man?" "I'm just a girl who cain't say No", "Simple joys of maidenhood", "Officer Krupky", "Brave Sir Robin" and "The song that goes like this" from Spamalot, "Never did no wanderin'" from the Christopher Guest movie "A Mighty Wind" ---well, you get the idea...)
Also, jazz versions of vocal standards from the 1920's on...
Love my show tunes also Sandra. "smoke on your pipe and put that in" from the song america. What a great play on an old cliche. Or in Officer Krumpky the following
Dear kindly Judge, your Honor,
My parents treat me rough,
With all the marijuana,
They won't give me a puff.
They didn't wanna have me,
But somehow I was had.
Leapin' lizards, that's why I'm so bad!
My mother and I went to see it at the drive-in when I was around 11 and the next day her and I went and bought the album which I almost wore out. It must have been great to have been at Oklahoma or West Side Story at opening night on broadway.
Steven Sondhiem - a great lyricist
Great line! I tend to like other people's covers of his songs---His own voice, arrangements, and usual tempo can feel so funereal. I do love the words and harmonies in "Suzanne," and I sing along whenever I hear it...
A lot of Dana Fuchs Band. She's a blues singer who is sort of a mix of Janis Joplin and Tina Turner.
I love music and am interested in what others are listening to. So post what you're listening to now, or have listened to in the past 12 hours...
Giant Steps - John Coltrane
