What social media sites would you recommend? 🤭🤔😲😵‍💫🥺🙄

I’ve been noticing lately that almost all of the current forums(threads, strands, whatever!) are aimed at the youngsters( for me, that’s anyone under 25).  I figured that social media is something that ALL age groups can comment about.  For myself, I’m on Facebook and on this site. I would recommend Facebook to people who want to meet a lot of new people, and also to people who are looking for a significant other.  I like meeting people from all over the world and learning about different countries’ perspectives on global events.  I’ve also learned that internet “friendships” are something that one should enter into very cautiously.  Let’s keep this forum kind - good natured teasing is fine!  Have fun commenting!

Also, when you recommend a social media site, please mention WHY you would recommend it so that us old folks(anyone over 40!) will make a point to explore it.

Try Mastodon..Separate servers for people with certain interests..e.g. Mastodon.Scot..for Scottish people, but not exclusively. There are sites for tech. geeks…..theatre…don’t know about America, but everyone has access to federated threads…I got kicked off face book and Twitter Pegasu…cannot imagine why, but probably for not taking crap from people.

I’m . . .stunned, @HiramH! You’re such a sweet, gentle, mild-mannered soul! 🤷‍♀️

In truth, I cannot and do not recommend social media of any type. It’s all a social wasteland from my perspective. (My simple opinion)

I have no social media. Never will.

I do agree for the most part. I prefer face to face contact( and I don’t mean video-chatting) and interesting conversations with real friends, not “friends” I meet online. Don’t get me wrong - I get a kick out of the c.c. forum page and its  participants, but social media seems to encourage a false intimacy with people you don’t know and for the most part, don’t care to know.

Rich, eh?

Realllly! I had NO idea - time to kick that husband of mine to the curb! 😁

I actually wouldn't recommend any. I was very active on Facebook for a few years, but discovered life was much better without it. I've lost contact with a few people, but have come to rely much more on real life relationships, especially church family.  If your friends are mostly on the internet, you are likely not living a healthy social life.

There was a cartoon in Private Eye which summed up social media. It was a baby in his high chair looking at his smartphone. His mum said to his dad: “ Look, he’s just had his first death-threat.”😢

If your goal is to have lots of mental problems, then sign up for all of the social media sites... :-)

I'm only here and I evidently have enough issues

I am currently not active in any social media other than these forums here at Chess com. Has been liberating not to be tied to my phone. My ordinary life has enough drama between kids and grandyounguns that I decided that this was enough for me! lol
