Why is there no offline mode

why? i just want to play my friend sitting next to me i want offlkne mode!
I have enough real chess pieces to make two chess sets... The funny thing is that all of these pieces were missing since several years ago and we just collected them as we found them so we don't have a single full set lol
Perhaps they didn't consider an offline mode... Yet.
