Worst chess movie

So I went back and gave it a second chance.

The blitzing out moves, the 15 minute break and the arbiter being called over to propose draws didn't bother me.  Seeing the guy trying to keep up with the old-fashioned display board was fun.

They listed two FIDE arbiters as "Chess consultants".  Andrzej Kania and Andrzej Filipowicz.

I thought it wasn't so bad after all. The Cuban Missile Crisis was unbelievably tense for the world. It was a good place for a fantasy chess match to have some effect on world peace.

You have the bunny's admiration for your tenacity and courage.  The bunny will be listing this movie under the horror section.

I watched it, not very good.  I actually thought Pullman did ok considering he only got the role two days before shooting because the original actor that was cast was in an accident.

The hypnotist scene was accurately portrayed (guy named Zukhar).

Thanks for the info.  The original lead choice might have brought more drama to the movie.

Also wasn't the zukhar episode during the karpov korchnoi match.

"Whatever his motive or purpose, Zukhar sat in the audience and maintained a direct and intense stare at Korchnoi during every game of the world championship. His association with Karpov and his disconcerting mien led the superstitious Korchnoi and his overprotective team to suspect foul play of a supernatural kind. Zukhar was accused of being a parapsychologist who was attempting to use his special mental powers to disrupt Korchnoi's concentration."

Every chess movie is that bad.

bad but not that bad.  pawn sacrifice & queen of katwe were watchable but this was a complete mockery.

The trailer makes it look fun though.

"Knight Moves" starring Christopher Lambert. Runaway winner.

And now there's queen's gambit on Netflix. The bunny being a glutton for punishment binge watched all 7 episodes. Remember to tip your king folks.

I don't have Netflix. But I know only two or three Netflix movie in the whole year are good. So, Netflix is not worth the subscription.

It's worth it if you don't have to pay for it.  wink.png

I like the king toppling thing. One of the things that got me into chess was reading Tevis' novel "The Queen's Gambit back in the late '80s, which mentioned king-toppling several times so I assumed it was normal. A bit of harmless drama, like fencers saluting with their blades before a bout.
