YouTube is scum

1. The absurd age restriction logic. Have to sign in to watch a neurosurgery footage or a brawl in a pizza shop video, but abusive parenting like that Rube Franke channel will be allowed for years. Or they'll have inappropriate dating app ads with inappropriate pictures eight underneath the video you have to "sign in" to watch.

2. Picture-in-picture works for most videos except for music! How much more insane can they get?? Music is the only type of video where you only need the audio or would want to listen to in the background while doing something else in another I assume they do this to try and force you to buy an overpriced monthly membership. If they didn't allow anything in a minimized window for free I could understand, but the fact that they deliberately go out of the way to restrict music, the one thing that's useful minimized and many people need for their mental health, that's just wrong.

3. The ads are out of hand. Not only are there now double ads that you cant skip, each a good 6-15 seconds, but the ads have the most annoying music in them, and they'll be yet another add every 5 mins on a popular channel video. Enough already.

4. Hypocritical censorship, shadowbanning, comment chains will often say "12 replies" and you can only see 7 of them, or 2-3 replies and you can't see any! That's just lame and pathetic. Sometimes if you've been banned, they'll let you post your comment but as soon as you refresh it is gone. I don't see the point of that. They allow the nastiest comments otherwise though, but any replies to them will get you strikes/banned. Other evidence of this is posting a comment on a video and it doesn't get any likes/replies, yet a comment much later and more recent saying the exact same thing and immediately get dozens of likes, despite the other comment being older. Either the algorithm is flawed, or it is shadowbanning, which is wrong, all sites should stop doing that.

And #5 to add to the OP, the absolutely pathetic removal of dislikes. Probably because so many of the news videos that pushed PC propaganda were getting 50x the number of dislikes at one point. "To protect small content creators" lol even though the channel creator can still see the dislikes and just the public can't see them. Laughable.

I joined already I think. The "off topic" one.

@OP - You'll get no argument from me. YouTube *is* scum. :-)

I periodically get the popups saying that adblockers aren't allowed, but so far they haven't actually blocked the videos from me. (I just close the popup and keep going.) Time will tell, haha.

We're not talking about the quality of the videos. We're talking about how the company treats its customers and creators.

Considering the videos you've been posting maybe we should be worried about your mental wellbeing.

It's hard to believe that you're 14. I'd have guessed 6 or 7.

I was banned from YouTube just for comments on certain issues, I didn't even have any videos. Obviously for politically correct reasons as I generally keep my online comments very civil and avoid personal attacks. Had to create a whole other Gmail account just so I could sign in to watch whatever videos were "age restricted" for ridiculous reasons. It was useful though, as I also use that email to separate stuff from this site out from my main account. They could have just muted me but still let me sign in to the site. And it's a permanent ban lol, that email can never be used to make another account again which is absurd.

AARoads Forum (a site for driving enthusiasts and highway geeks) is just as bad with the tyrannical censorship and prejudiced bans. The 3 reasons I was banned from there were absolutely ludicrous.

Yeah, I hate the comment shadowbans.

Endgame, Youtube doesn't care about you. They only care about childish content. I hate them.

Yeah...

Exactly. Who needs marketing when you have coercion?

And I feel half the problem is that Youtube is extremely biased.

I remember when my orange juice bottles were 68 ounces. Those days are long gone. They're 54 ounces now. Guess if they decreased the price?

Louis Rossmann has made a number of videos about YouTube. I think his opinions are usually spot on. (Fair warning - he often throws f-bombs around.) Just search his videos for "YouTube".

YouTube also has the most toxic comment sections on the planet. Quora is a close second. Am I'm not even talking about the trolls who say "ha ha this is hilarious" on tragic videos, but the people that are actually trying to make a point and are just as unempathetic, nasty, and victim blaming as you can be.
