A bit of disappointment.

This is slightly overdue timewise, and I hope that a similar thread I didn't see hasn't been started/addressed already.  I was a bit disapointed when I watched my first chess.com video only to see that I wasn't paying quite enough to watch it in its entirety.  I am certain that plenty of consideration was placed on the value of the video's however, I feel obligated as a member to make known my dissatisfaction with the final decision.

I do however appreciate the time, as well as the other features of the site, thank you.

There have been quite a few of these threads, and to be honest I understand where they are coming from.  The videos are awesome and I would hate not being able to watch all of them (I wake up in the morning excited to see what new video is out for the day).  That being said... as a diamond member paying extra, what else would you suggest I get for my increased payment?  As it stood before the only difference between platinum and diamond was the chess mentor and an extra 75 games analyzed per week (this feature doesn't really help me too much as I play online chess and never finish that many games).  We pay 4 dollars extra per month over platinum and we should have a few things to show for it.  Now with videos/chess mentor that 4 dollars/month is very good value for money.  So, while I sympathize as the videos are incredible, I would not want that to change unless they gave us diamonds more seperation from platinum.

I am a diamond member and the videos are too big for me to be able to watch on my internet connection speed...  :(

Then download them!

costelus.  I didn't know I could!  I'm going to go do that right now!

Well, you cannot do it directly, but google something like "download embedded flv videos". Likely you will need an add-on for the browser you are using.

sorry Rob :( videos and chess mentor are for diamond users.

Don't forget chess mentor, very cool tool, and probably worth the upgrade alone, perhaps in the future.

And Erik, I understand and I only think it's important that I voice my thoughts on the subject.  I appreciate your taking a couple seconds to read and respond though.

thank you for sharing your thoughts! i hope that the amout of chess learning you can gain from chess mentor and videos will be worth the $4 a month extra you would pay as a diamond member!

I like chess mentor a lot, but I am not sure if I would pay an extra 4 dollars a month for that alone... with videos however, as I noted above, it is well worth the money to me.

I know you were just sharing your thoughts on the subject, but I paid for diamond in a bulk sum (1 year) to save money, it wouldn't be fair at all to those of us who did fork up the money for the privilege of watching the videos.

4 dollars is something. Let's not make people feel bad about what they find comfortable/affordable. This thread reads like a lynch mob.

A spec of dust is something. For a guy who lives in the states and has the internet, 4 dollars is next to nothing.

Sure, but not everyone lives in America, and paying with vietnamese dong or something might be costly.

4 dollars a month is NOTHING. Considering the time, effort and reserach that has gone into that, not to mention the solutions and helpful comments, I'd play a lot more than 4 measley dollars a month for it.

Personally in my own financial stiuation I agree with you... however:

1. Chess Mentor is an amazing tool, however, for me personally, I am not sure if it is worth 4 dollars a month.

2. For the sake of the argument in this thread I am not going to assume that your first sentence: "4 dollars a month is NOTHING." is true for everyone.  To be honest I think that is a pretty narrow minded view.

Back on point for this topic however... I do feel that with videos/chess mentor the 4 dollars/month is worth it for that shiny diamond.

It's a terribly uneducated comment you made, I certainly made it very clear that I completely appreciate the efforts of the Chess.com staff; therefore, I am not inclined to argue about such an absurd comment.

I think the reason so many Americans are in debt is the casual attitude towards spending.  A penny saved is a penny earned.  Even in America...4 dollars is something.

I'm sorry, I am not trying to pull this topic off topic, especially since I agree with the pricing (now that they have added videos that is).  What does the bolded statement have anything at all to do with someone's financial situation... I am quite proud to be an American, but that does not mean that I am going to make a giant financial assumption based on their geographic location and the fact that he/she is online.  If I remember the statistics correctly only about 50% (yes I know statistics are pretty much crap... but it is a ballpark) of the American population has Internet available in their house.  We do have Internet cafes, libraries where you can access the internet for free, plenty of internet hotspots, if you have a laptop.  Now then, since I am American i suppose it is time for me to go to McDonalds, eat a burger, get fat and then poo in my golden toilet.

Saying an American comes from a America is uneducated? Interesting.

Don't be a child sir, obviously an average income does not by any stretch of the imagination indicate a particular individual’s income, and more to the point it is in no way related to what is and is not comfortable for a particular individual to spend on a hobby.  I will not respond again, because it is clear that your intention is to bait an arguement, Good Day.

Let's see:

I am an American

Americans are sterotyped to be lazy

thus I  must be lazy

So I am going to agree with the above quote, and sign off as well.  All this typing is just too much on me.
