Has anybody figured out how to download the video lessons and put them on Ipod? Keepvid.com, which is what I use to download off of youtube, doesn't work. I'd like to be able to watch the videos while out and about on my Ipod.

Anybody figured out how?

I wish I could help you. The best I can do is suggest possible approaches -- Contact the Video Lessons people under Learn. Contact the Download people under Resources. Go through the FAQs. Contact the Help & Support people.Smile

You can look at the topic "A Bit of a Disappointment" if you want, but the bottom line is that they (staff) don't want them downloaded, so they will or have fixed it so it can't be done. Sorry.Frown

yeah, rookandladder -- that's a brilliant idea - that's like asking how to do something illegal at the police station, or at the courthouse. Man, criminals are some of the dumbest people on the planet.

It isn't illegal you moron. I am a diamond member, and have full access to said videos. If chess.com chooses to limit the format in which they are viewable, that is their perogative, but I was not aware that they had done so.

Check the topic "A Bit of Disappointment" for the staff statement on downloading videos.Wink

I'm not sure when or where you were born, so maybe the issue of ripping copyrighted material is just over your head. The younger generation might not see a problem with ripping off other people's work. Maybe "illegal" is too strong a word these days.

But you should show some common sense about where and who you are asking if you can rip off their material. You can search google for tools. There are ways to do it. But you don't go up to an artist and ask them how to rip off their work. That's my point.

Cofresi, theft hasn't occurred until distribution it's just that its much easier to police it at the duplication step which is unfortunate for honest users, but completely understandable from a business standpoint.

To equate duplication of copyrighted material for personal use to ripping off an artist misses the point entirely -- rookandladder is correct in pointing out that as a diamond member he's already purchased the material, unfortunately chess.com is also entirely correct to prevent him from copying it, even for legitimate use, as they have no alternative when it comes to pre-empting those that would rip them off.

Thanks for the clarifications TheGrobe. Very well put.

Again, my reaction is not so much about the "downloading". In fact maybe I'm all for that. My reaction is about the ill-advised choice of asking the people who would most be against it and who would look for ways to prevent it (I assume).

And I'm thinking maybe that red flag doesn't even register, because this generation doesn't have the same sensitivities that others did, vis à vis copyright. Of course, copyright is a whole topic for heated debate too (Lessig, etc). Thanks again for a thoughtful response.

To RookandLadder, just Google it kid.

I wasn't aware that chess.com didn't want the vids downloaded. Of course, it makes sense that they don't, as I could just as easily post them on youtube as watch them on my Ipod, but I was asking as a legitimate user.
