I suggest we start a truly rigorous experiment to prove if your anecdotal observances form a good hypothesis. Find a number of platinum and gold members that are currently not very abusive, buy them diamond memberships (anonymously as possible) and then monitor their level of abusiveness. You could even start a group so people can vote as to whether those tested become more abusive.

I volunteer for the first round of testing

Before-after comparisons are unreliable.  You'd have to randomize, so that some get upgraded and some do not, and then compare these groups.

OK I'll take that for a "No that's fine I believe you."

I really appreciate you having  confidence in me like that. You'll never know how much it means to me.

BTW you should unblock tonydal. He actually makes awesome posts about chess and other stuff.

Cheers.

I don't want to discuss him but first he has to go through detention or get another way to prove that he will never EVER be abusvie towards me again.

The Pope should sell titles like papal dispensations. Would be fun to see who buys.

I actually pick the diamond by accident. Just meant to try it for a month. Turns out to be the best "blunder" I've made in a long while.

I love this site!

I take it you recently upgraded?

But you're missing the point. I am trying to tell you that the awesomeness of his posts outweighs the abusiveness, leaving you with a net gain. How is that not good for you?

Abusiveness is never out-weighed by anything.

Explain why. You know I can read his content w/o unblocking him.

Which is unethical in itself. Besides you can only read his content in other peoples threads. You're denying yourself the awesomeness of his presence in your own threads.

If Kasparov wrote you a letter, offering to come to your home and play chess with you and point out ways you could improve your game, (awesomeness) but in the same letter misspelled your name multiple times,(apparent abuse) would you turn him down on account of the abuse?

I would just block him from social interaction if he doesn't heed warnings. Anyhow this is NOT the case with tonydal and isn't relevant.

It's relevant to your comment stating that nothing ever outweighs abusiveness.

I wouldn't take advice from someone who's being abusive at the same time.

OK. Well, it's your loss.

Getting back on topic, it seems that this has gotten many trolls (who I'm not naming) to buy diamond membership-a boon to the site.

I'm a gold membership holder but I have to say that people can and DO be abusive no matter what their level of membership.
