Tactics Trainer - Possible improvement

Hi everyone,

I am improving my chess skill using Tactics trainer (TT) and Chess Mentor. Those two tools helped me a lot and I believe TT may be improved with an additional simple new feature.

It happens to me that when I am playing real chess I just see tactics or patterns where there aren't any and, as a consequence, losing the game. This is one of the problems with my chess but TT is not always helping.

After using TT, you just have the feeling there is a pattern and you need to find it out. Also when I play TT I sometimes don't go through all the combination at start, but during the solving of problem.

My suggestion would be to include in TT positions in which there are no tactics at all: before starting the combo, the player would have the possibility to say that there are no tactics and so solving the "problem".

Hope I was clear enough and happy to have your view on this.

they alreay do have this setup in tactics trainer.they give you middle game puzzles and endgame puzzles that are mostly devoid of tactical possibilities.

Hazeleyes, I am aware of those puzzles in which there aren't proper tactics.

What I was saying is that, when you play TT, you know there is always something to look for. Maybe it could be useful to have the player analyze the position before taking this for granted.

Turn off the timer, and solve the problem all the way through before making a move. This is a good solution to just making the 'obvious' move and then seeing how it plays out.

Yes, indeed turning the timer off helps. I turned the timer off when i started, also for the fact I could not focus on the problem with it on.
