Chess Sin?

I attend an all certain gender Catholic school. For some reason, whenever I am seen on this website I am seemingly shunned by everyone around me. Once I even got a fine for being on this site, just attempting to improve my skills. I have a huge chess tournament this weekend and just need to practice. Is chessing sinning?

If you are on chess.com during break time, it’s fine. Playing on any games site on work time however will be frowned on by your coworkers. Chess.com is blocked entirely on our work computers. To be deliberately not working while being paid by an employer would be a sin I think, albeit a small one. Unless it was lots of time spent that way.

The gender is not much of a mystery here....

Lax I'm so sorry you're going through this. The unfortunate thing is, chessing IS sinning. But here's the good news. You got caught... you've sinned... you're now impure....

I'm Catholic as well and it's not a sin to play chess unless you're devoting your whole entire life to it. Remember God comes first, then your family and then your passions whether that is chess or what not.

Requesting a draw as white is a sin according to Mikhail Tal

I actually did that in a very recent tournament cause I saw the game was heading for a draw already (we were trading out equal pieces and neither of us was giving each other enough room to make strategies that would help either of us) but for some reason the dude I was playing with was stuck in check and I had checked him again and that helped me win the game. I glad he said no for us drawing lol. I was able to place second in my section😂

B.S I Hate how people nowadays spread propaganda chess is a guide to how the universe works because there are more opening moves than they are stars in the galaxy and chess stimulates your deep cognitive part of the brain which apparently this bozo doesn't have. The number of opening moves is actually slightly less than the number of stars...

There are 170000000000000000000000000 opening chess moves according to Yahoo which is more than 100 million thousand stars in the milky way galaxy and 1000000000000000000000000 of stars in the galaxy simple mathematics check your facts before you spread lies. In calculating stars NASA found an estimate of 100billion stars per galaxy then multiplied it by 10 trillion galaxies in the universe and u get the quintillion figure I gave which less than 170 quintillion opening moves of chess. If it is still difficult for you to understand then count the number of zeros which should be 24 for the stars and 25 for opening chess moves.

The number of opening moves depends entirely on what you mean by "opening move". If you mean one or two ply, the number is rather low. Six or seven ply is still entirely manageable by a computer. You're confusing "opening moves" with a complete chess game. 

The calculation was already done in the NASA website and the break down was done also there which are the figures I gave you and I forgot to mention to thàt Is was 170 quintillion or oktillion ways to play the first 10 opening chess moves. I Forgot to mention it was the number of wàys for playing the moves not the moves themselves so that might have brought confusion but either way we are both wrong because the number of chess opening moves are not slightly less than the number of stars in the galaxy they are way less or immensly less not slightly. Even the total number chess moves you were suggesting are way less. And fyi Yahoo is also a search engine like Google which collects more than 4 terabytes of data per day so if it were to do calculations it would be more than suited. Yahoo wàs the search engine I used to access those research websites but since you only know of Google I have now accessed the same websites through Google search engine if it makes you feel any better.

It's better to do the math yourself.

How many possible first moves are there for White? And how many for Black? Are all the resulting positions unique? Multiply the two values to get the number of positions after two plies. This number is not big at all, but grows quickly with more moves.

You won't understand much in life just looking up the answer in the back of the book.
