the programming classes ive take in school taught syntax and logic that were alway applied to assignments with a fixed goal that never changed..write a program to meet the goal..in chess the goal is always changing and strategies must meet those changes.i find chess to be abetter exercise of problem solivng skills for real life where conditions and goals are always in a state of flux...its easier to program than to play chess

Does anybody have any thoughts about whether one should teach chess or programming or both to young school children? If you are an avid proponent of teaching chess can you comment on the educational benefits.
