Hi,

My name is John and I coach chess and tutor math. I am a U.S. Candidate Master in Chess and I am working on my Applied Mathematics degree in college. I have been coaching chess for 8 years and tutoring math for 5 years. Please see the descriptions below.

CHESS:
Students can expect to be challenged and to have fun. I like to focus on thought process and asking the right questions, strategy, knowing where to put the pieces, calculation, visualization, tactics, and endgame. I do like to give homework (worksheets) and I like to give out prizes (colored chess keychains) for working hard during the lesson and showing effort on the homework. . I have been coaching chess for 8 years and have taught chess at over 30 schools throughout the chicago-land area.

MATH:
Subjects I tutor: All elementary school mathematics, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre- calculus, calculus (derivatives and integrals "calc 1 and 2"), proofs, etc. I have experience tutoring math for all levels from K - 12th grade. I have been tutoring math for 5 years and have taught math enrichment classes at elementary schools in the Chicago land area. I do not give math homework. I already know students have enough of that! . I do ask that they try their best to complete their homework / take home quizzes, exam studying, etc... on their own before our lessons. Some parent's send me pictures (via email or text) of student's difficult problems so I can adequately prepare my teaching approach before the lesson (typically for older kids in higher level math). I love math so this is not a problem!
