The Collegiate Chess League: Summer 2025, presented by Susquehanna, features competitions in three different and fun formats for university students from around the world.

2025 Summer CCL features the College Bullet Championship, the College Team Chess Battle, and Weekly Prize Arenas. Learn more about each below.

College Bullet Championship (click to expand details)

 

Schedule

  • Registration: Closes July 11 at 10 p.m. PT / 1 a.m. ET (+1)
  • Qualifier: July 12 at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET
  • Playoffs: July 19 at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET

Qualifiers

  • Players compete in a 60-minute score-based arena
  • Time control: 1+0
  • The standings from the arena determine the divisions, with eight players going into each division

Playoffs

  • Each division features eight players
  • Each division is a double-elimination bracket
  • Matches are best-of-12
  • Time control: 1+0
  • If the match ends in a tie, the first player to win a game wins the match
  • If the Grand Final match needs a reset, it'll be a best-of-eight match

Schedule

  • Registration: Closes July 25 at 10 p.m. PT / 1 a.m. ET (+1)
  • Quarterfinals and Semifinals: July 26 at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET
  • Finals: August 2 at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET

Format

  • Teams consist of two players from the same school
  • Teams are divided into divisions, each with eight teams based on their average rapid rating
  • Each division is a single-elimination bracket
  • Quarterfinals and semifinals matches consist of two 10+2 games
  • Final match consists of two 10+10 games
  • Players can communicate during the game
  • The lower-rated player controls the pieces
Weekly Prize Arenas (click to expand details)

 

Schedule and Format

  • Every Thursday from July 10 to August 7
  • Start time: 2 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. ET
  • Players compete in a multi-club arena, where the combined score of the top-four scorers from each club determine their team's score
  • Time control: 5+2
  • Arena duration: 90 minutes
