anyone can become world champion if they're not like 50
Um.
No not really.
To even stand a chance to be IM (ca Elo 2450) you have to start really early (preferably single digit age) and work really hard. GM is even harder (ca Elo 2550), then comes the informal title Super-GM (Elo 2700+), which is like 30 people or so, and then comes the real top players with Elo of 2800 and beyond, which so far only around 15 people have reached in total, over all time.
Granted, Gukesh is the official world champion right now and "only" the #5 world wide with "only" Elo 2777. He is only 19 though so he probably will improve further in future. And Ding Liren, the previous world champion, had something of a breakdown and is suddenly only the #17 and Elo 2734 anymore.
Magnus Carlsen right now is still the strongest of all players at 2831 and could snatch the world champion title another time. But he wont play of course.
i meant like be at least like 1700 and above.
