how to study chess?

sasazastavnikovic
Hi guys, I would like to study chess and make improvment. At the moment I'm average player. If any of you study chess professionally could you please advise me how to do it, where to start and how to develope plan. At the moments I'm learning some openings and looking for videos on you tube about pawn structure and end games. Thanks

Read Andrew Soltis' book How to study chess.

None of us study chess professionally.

MooseMouse

Friend of mine made Master using the Dutch "Steps" method.  To be more precise, he used their tutorial interactive CD, Chess Tutor.  https://www.chess-steps.com/chesstutor.php

An excellent cd. Use it all the time.

Thanks, I`ve got the book

Glad you got the book.  My favorite chapter is Two and a half move chess. If you want to discuss the book, send me a friend request, and we can "talk" about the book. Otherwise, just read and enjoy his book.

Focus first in the basics, solve huge amount of tactics problems. get a book for tactics and stick to it until you finished it and repeat until you solve 1 problem in an instant. next move to endgame, learn the very basic. A good book is the 100 Endgames You Must Know, learn it from the heart. You will notice your rating will increase.

HI galdave, thanks I`m doing 5 free tactics on chess.com, found one app with some puzzles that I`m doing daily as well. At the moment I`m reading Chess tactics for students - john bain. Also have for tactics Winning Chess Tactics/Seirawan, The Giant Chess Puzzle Book, Chess Tactics for Champions (Polgar and Truong) and Chess Tactics Training /Shumilin Nikolay -                       For endings, I`ve found Complete endgame course/Silman, Winning Chess Endings/ Seirawan and Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual;

Hi thanks, I will add you for a friend but for the chat about the book, it will take a while as I'm already reading the other two books at the moment;
