You have no idea how hard the staff is working to fix these problems.

Lichess has no idea what it is like to handle millions of people coming on at once.

Lichess reports it has 47,000 games going now.

Chess.com has 448,000 going.

I get these errors every day now. It used to be cute seeing Danny pretend to put wires in the back of a computer and then look at the camera shocked.

Trust me, by the 100th time you see this you start feeling murderous.

I yearn for the return of the goat.

Increasingly, daily, hourly, I am receiving these error messages.  If chess.com is selling a service, then it needs to provide it.  I understand occasional glitches; constant service failure is another thing entirely.

Agreed. Seeing it once a month was almost cute / funny, but seeing it every hour is not. They need a more calming / professional pic.

So?

Is chess.com a charity? I'm supposed to feel sorry for them?

It's a business.

Not that I personally care, I rarely play chess here anyway, but if there were a greatly superior product somewhere else then it only makes sense to switch.

My first attempt to post on this thread resulted in ... can you guess? ... 502.  It has to be some sort of kharmic message.

This site has major issues, as it seems.
I'm here for a week now and so far, no day without lagging or getting a "Error 502" (thought the GIF was funny at first, but can't stand them anymore...)

I mean, it's not a big deal, losing some points, yet I'd love to lose them because I suck, not the service I'm using. Don't pay to play here, but must be double infuriating for people handing over their hard earned $$$ and then getting randomly kicked out of a (winning?) game.

But hey, at least the advertising mails for premium accounts roll in in precise intervals - luckily the mail-servers aren't failing. wink.png

No, it's a little frustrating but it's not double infuriating.  I've been here for 15 years and have never seen these kinds of problems before.

I have confidence that the staff is working very hard to fix them as quickly as possible.

Hackers. Paid by chessdotcom to implement “improvements”.

Just lost another puzzle I had solved.

It is kind of frustrating when people complains without understanding what is going behind the scenes.

?

I've been here 13 years, and I'm not happy or sad about the server issues, none of that changes the facts: they currently have a poor product. That's it. People are fully justified in hating it and playing at lichess.

After chess.com solves it (or after enough people leave) then it will be back to normal and it would make sense for those people to come back to chess.com.

"But they're working hard to fix it" lol, of course they are, it's their business... what does working hard have to do with anything?

justbefair

Meanwhile, there are half a million players currently playing on Chess.com and about one-quarter of that amount on lichess.

So, it seems pretty obvious that few people have moved over there.

Yes, out of interest I've been checking the live chess numbers the last few days. 500,000 is  explosive growth... and particularly when I recall the numbers from 10 years ago, it just shows how well chess.com has done as a company to be in a position to facilitate the growth of chess to this extent.

I'm not advocating for the company or hating them, I'm simply stating the fact that their current product is poor and it makes sense for people to be upset. I know they're working hard, and I don't expect these issues to last a long time...

... and believe me, if they have even a shred of business sense they understand this has already lost them money. Yes a boom is good, but it could have been even better if their servers were able to hold 1 million players at once, for example. This is how any reasonable businessman would think.

There is a military adage -- "A good excuse is almost as good as actually getting it done."   I see that logic being offered more and more in the "real world", particularly with Gen Z.

Oh, and that adage is not a compliment.

Has chess.com just gotten too big?

I generally play 30/0. On another site I am in the top 30% of players with a ranking of 6,225 . Here I am somehow in the top 7% with a ranking of .......................................953,000.

This is bonkers. Can this site survive the load on the system? I sure hope so.

Hi, can I get back my points which I lost in the game ended due to server fail?

mine's gone too. last time it happened the game was just assumed non-played. i think they'll make up for it once they fix the servers.

You opponent had the same disadvantage. Just win next time to make up for it.

it's not like you can play. since the servers are broken you can't reconnect. therefore forcing an auto-resign on both of the parties. i don't know, maybe if i had waited five minutes staring at the screen then i'd get a chance to play but i just closed the app after two minutes.

look at JohhnyPetnik's last game. he didn't play a move for almost two minutes and in the next move he was considered defeated even though he had 54 more seconds. it happens when your opponent can reach the server and you somehow can't. therefore making you resign instead of your opponent.

no improvements for 10 days, I lost my 400 lessons history, my puzzle rating went from 1900 to 400, avatar picture disappeared...

Tiring, are other chess apps bugging equally?
