The ads were never full screen nor did they interrupt game play. Now they are. Stop gaslighting people saying that we’ve always had ads. Yes, we have. We know that. But now the ads are being forced on users in a terrible way. That’s the problem.
Hmm. I just logged off my moderator account and logged into my alt account which is not premium.
I played a game. I saw some ads before the game but no ads interrupted the game.
It wasn't any different than I remember. I use the website version.
I get full screen ads on iOS multiple times per day. You cannot skip or exit them, and they last about 5 seconds each.
Also, when I say they interrupt game play, I don’t mean the middle of a game—just game play. You’re having a few good games and then you’re hit with an ad.

Yeah the problem is that the ads come in between games. Its annoying af because you can be in the zone and the website interrupts you.
Dave, I think chess.com mods know this, but are being purposefully obtuse and ignoring user feedback because they themselves can’t really do anything about it anyway. It just sucks to see them shilling for a company valued at over a billion dollars.

I may be obtuse but it is not deliberate.
In an ad-supported site, the ads either have to go in the middle of games or between the games.
I think that running five second ads between the games is far from “terrible”. Those five seconds may allow you to remember where you are, what you were supposed to be doing today and all sorts of other useful information.
This is scummy. Yeah I have diamond but I sympathize with all the non-diamond users. Wasn't enough with all useless UI changes. Chess.com is really trying to push their users over to lichess.
Video ads are a big step down in my opinion, and I will probably stop using this app. There are advertising-funded chess sites with simple banner ads only. Video ads are data hogs and a non-starter for me especially on mobile app.

Thats not true though. There arent just 2 options on where to place ads. The banner ads were fine because we could still see them, and it didn't interfere with playing. If the ads get any worse than they are now, ill be forced to move to lichess. Not that the site cares, but at least other sites don't interfere with play.
Chess.com wants everyone to move to Lichess right?
I don’t play a ton but played one today and I didn’t see any ads on the iOS app version except for the one at the end of the game thats inside the little overview
I keep seeing My Heritage ads, military ads, every day. Reporting the ad does nothing so an adblocker or just play on Lichess seem the only solutions.
If they are going to play ads at beginning of game you should get a free review otherwise its off to lichess

Chess.com is ruining the website. Now when I click play I have to watch a freaking ad. Used to be a way to relax but now it’s becoming ridiculous.
