I've complained to chess.com several times and I'm still loosing connection about 1 in every 4 games. It takes all the fun out of playing on this site. My internet connection is apparently fine, in particuar I play on Lichess all the time with no problems whatsoever. I've tried several browsers and use both Linux and Windows, so I doubt this is a problem specific to my set up.

There's are multiple things that can cause issues.

There are some things that you can do to minimize connection issues. Though if the problem is between you and the site then they may not help

Thanks for taking the time to reply, but naturally I have tried all this stuff before. My ping to chess.com is typically fine, <20ms, comparable with my ping to Lichess.

One link points out that playing chess is a live real time game and not to judge chess.com as you would a website giving static information, like a news site. As I explained in my original post, I have no problems with Lichess and playing (live) Halo on steam. I wonder if chess.com should talk to Lichess and Microsoft and see how they do things.

The issue most likely is something between you and the website. There are also differences between how site handle lag and disconnects.

Short disconnects or lag on a video game are different as the local game can still run and when you reconnect you might jump some in location or have some jitter.

My understanding of Lichess is that they pretty much allow all lag and disconnects, not counting against the game

Chess.com allows a certain amount of lag over a series of moves but does not allow all. Its a fundamentally different mechanism and philosophy and not necessarily a technical issue.
