back, forward arrow changed to undo
+1 this change just happened for me, really frustrating. Also i'm confused, when playing a bot on challenge setting there is not supposed to be any takebacks allowed, but yet now I can use the undo button freely?

Ok. I've got to say I'm really confused at the response to this one. The workaround for this is trivial. Just tap the moves at the top (or side on PC I assume) of the screen to go back and forth without changing the AI response. To change the AI response, click undo.
I have to disagree with you here. Tapping the moves across the tiny top banner is super fiddly and unintuitive. Having large < and > buttons at the bottom is so much easier to just *tap tap tap* to go back and forth a few moves. If the point is to introduce an 'Undo' button that is different from the < Back button, that's fine, just find a different way to have an undo button on the screen elsewhere.
You also can't turn off the "undo" feature. You can't force an opponent to redo the last move in a real game, so you should at least have the option of turning that option off. It just serves no actual purpose other than to confuse people.

Ok, this must be on PC then. On my android app, the top move list is the same size or perhaps slightly larger than the buttons. Interesting.

OK yeah there must be a difference in how things look in different apps or devices. I'm on an iPhone. I just pulled a screenshot into Photoshop quick and... you'll have to excuse me while I nerd out a bit here 🤓 ...on my iPhone 16 Pro the top move list tap targets are 72x131 px (totaling a 9,432 sq pixel tap target) and the bottom UI buttons are 180x301 px (totaling a 54,180 sq px tap target).
54,180 ÷ 9,432 means that my bottom buttons are almost 6x larger than the top buttons. 🤓 They also don't move and thus easier to tap several times quickly.

The back and forward arrows have now disappeared from the web based version for me as of today. Why are you guys doing this? If they aren't back by the time my sub comes up for renewal I will 100% cancel. It was my favorite feature.

Hey! I'm aware this isn't the same as the button itself, but would you mind trying to navigate with your keyboard arrows?
Incredibly frustrating. I've been trying to figure out why anyone would make such a change. Definitely not renewing sub too if change stays.

It seems like a very unnecessary thing to change. Please Undo the Undo button. @augustv123 fast forward two days later and they're now gone from the desktop version.
Please bring the redo button back. It's much harder to learn and analyze the game without it. On web, I only have the 'undo' button which undoes both white and black's last move, and no option to redo the moves to reset after undoing. This is a terrible change.
It's not just the app, it's the web version too. And the issue for me is that it's in the SAME place as the prior back button, so I hit it reflexively to check the computer's last move, which ruins the game. This is particularly true when I'm timing myself. It has made the bots almost unplayable for me.

The issue is that you've added an "undo" feature that can't be turned off. Asking an opponent to undo their last move is not a feature of the game of chess. Why is a feature of bot chess? Worse, it's in the same place as the old navigation buttons, so I hit it accidentally. So I don't play bots anymore, and I don't use this site for games against humans, I use it to study, exclusively. I will not be renewing if this isn't changed.

Hello! The Undo button should only be available when you have the option Takebacks allowed.
- If you'd like not to have this option, you can play in Challenge mode, or you can also select Custom, and then toggle OFF the option Takebacks. 🙂
Would you mind giving it a try?
Yeah, +1 on this. Removing buttons is a terrible decision. Why would anyone want to destroy this functionality???
