bad puzzles, and reporting them

The puzzles on this site are garbage. End of story. Stick to other websites that actually have good puzzles pulled from real games and dont punish you for taking more than 15 seconds to solve, nor give you trick 400 rated puzzles when you think it must be more difficult because youre 1300.

The person who came up with this puzzle system should be fired immediately

Most of the puzzles come from real games, and most of them from games played on site.

I have run across very few problematic puzzles in  10 years and have probably completed 30,000+ puzzles in that time (I've reset at least 5 times).

Some puzzles I played on this or any other puzzle website are unpractical. But most puzzles have been extremely useful. Rarely plays a HUMAN player plays the exact same COMPUTER GENERATED sequence that only puzzle suggests. This is true, especially under time pressure when you can't think of a 5 move sequence in 10 seconds (unless it's a forced mate or something like that).

A lot of times, there is a lot of options. Limiting the whole thing to ONE sequence is obivously only for the sake of the puzzle being a puzzle.

How I learn from puzzles I completly don't understand how something could be the best move is to analyze (with the magnifier symbol) the puzzle and try to logically understand the puzzle because I know it comes from a computer calculated logic and not a human logic.

We are obivously humans and can't calculate hundreds of thousand variables. I would suggest to always take puzzles with a grain of salt.

Wdym by being punished? That you missed out on completely meaningless points?

Just take your time if you want to. I take 4-6 minutes for some puzzles because I sometimes take a very short breake to get back to them later if I'm stuck. Obvs that would NEVER be possible in a real match if it's a 10 minute match but I'm a beginer, so I'm just learning and I know at some time I will be able to solve these puzzles within half the time or less.

The point of puzzles is to learn not to stress yourself - that's what "real" matches are for happy.png. Look at puzzles as a tool to help you recognize patterns and to help you solve problems. Getting mad will not help you solve these puzzles.

Today i stumbled upon this puzzle that just ends here with black wining, suposed mate, but white can take the queen with the pawn, the game still considers this a mate.   So inhad to look up a way to confirm that this puzzles are just wrong

The pawn is moving tthe other direction, towards the bottom of the picture.

I have found several flawed puzzles on this site!  And I have reported every one of them!  And apparently nothing is ever done about it!  Instead I just continue to encounter flawed puzzles!

Had you removed the coordinate axes, I might likely have believed that the puzzle was wrong.

I regularly do my coordinate axes inspection in a puzzle, especially those involving pawns.

It's possible the puzzles weren't flawed.

I can attest that some puzzles make zero sense. If 95% of them are at least "justifiable," there's 5% that are heinous. My main peeve is when the puzzle wants you to make a 1st move that you would never do, because the CPU is about to do something that makes no sense. -you shouldn't have to make a first move on a puzzle by assuming an engine is going to blunder, that's never how you would solve that situation.

The first move should be correct, regardless of what the opponent does. The exact puzzle might be showing a tactical theme but with any defense, there should be a good continuation.

If you have a specific example you should post it.

I could not understand the following puzzle, because it was tempting to sacrifice the queen in step 1 and the opponent could have moved the king to f8, but that would have still resulted in them losing. Thanks Smoth3redCheckM8 for explaining it to me. White wins.

That was also a puzzle I just couldn't understand? Blocking with the queen makes mate in 5 instead of mate in 4, but if that's relevant just let the puzzle go. This is NOT a win of a queen, black would just go to h3. And I can't even report the puzzle (where's the report button?)

There's nothing really wrong with the puzzle. There may even be multiple versions in the database with different defenses.

Some puzzles generated from games may have a solution where the engine solution from the defending side will prolong the mate. A puzzle like that one will get people trying to premove the solution.

That said, you can report puzzles using the Help option in the menu.
