Can we have game analysis back?

one of the biggest issues for me, is that they got rid of showing you the best move automatically, they want you to find it. which i can understand might be good. i can see game review being an added benefit, but i think that it should exist alongside the old game report which to me was perfect for quickly analyzing a game

Why do you make your comment so annoying to look at?

What a disaster of a feature. Literally two days after I buy premium, they add in this useless mode. Can't use it, because it's just another desperate cash grab. First the made analysis useless unless you subscribed, now it's "useless" if you don't buy diamond.

But it's not even useless, just way more annoying. Only game review has the progression graph and good/brilliant move counter on it, but it apparently won't show you lines unless you pay for diamond. When it says that, I just click on the analysis tab, and it instantly shows me the best move and the lines.

Why are you wasting my time switching tabs? Either show the best line information on the review page, or remove it from the analysis tab entirely, so there can be a massive user backlash and you can be forced to totally remove the 'diamond' requirement for this new cash grab feature, like when you initially made all analysis premium only, only for you to reverse that move days later following the user exodus.

They changed something that worked fine into a downgrade.  Stop making changes that reduce the function of the tool.

I see that some things have been fixed since I made this post:

  • the graph doesn't scroll away (but now the moves don't scroll and you don't see the analysis without manually scrolling down...)
  • the ultra-annoying upsells have been removed

That being said, I'm still missing key features:

  • move arrows
  • key moments
  • useful feedback (e.g. "great move" is pretty useless, as opposed to "you found the only good move" we used to have)

BTW: I don't understand suggestions to use the "analysis" tab. If I wanted browser-stockfish, I'd go to Lichess, with arrows, no ads/payments and the newest version of the engine. Here I pay for the cloud version specifically.

  • Are you on Firefox?

As for move arrows, those are supposed to be in progress.
  • Key Moments are baked into the Review, so it you Start Review, you'll get them. I guess you are suggesting they just show right of the gate?

Not sure how you can say the the majority dislike it based on a few hundred posts among millions of members, and though I don't know how many premium members there are, there have been a lot of posts in topics here that players like the new Review as well.

This doesn't make sense to say in my opinion. Most of the people I know don't like this change and you can't expect millions of people to all come comment on it. I am sure there are people that like it, but I think the majority don't and even if that wasn't the case people still paid for the previous iteration that was much less of a hassle to use.

Of course I have faith in them listening to the feedback and changing the Game Review accordingly so it should all be fine.

In general, those that dislike something either post their dislike or stop using that thing (i.e. leave). Those that like something don't often post about it.

I can't say for sure how many people like/dislike it, other than anecdotally. However, I'm sure the site is tracking metrics and if they saw a massive decrease in memberships, cancellations, closures, and tickets, they'll use that to inform decisions.

I understand the frustration, even though I think the tools works pretty well for what it is.

please stop..........

I ask why do you make your comments annoying to look at and then you proceed to cry in every single thread, even message me crying about it and then revive other threads that I posted to also express your saltiness therein. I really struck a nerve or you just have some serious mental health issues.

They really don't, sadly. I am trying to help another friend and the game says losing the queen isn't a blunder. Losing a piece or queen being fine moves... simply because the game was already favoured for one side.

It makes it much harder to help newer players if the analysis doesn't even label them losing their queen as a blunder. The eval going from -4 to -13 or something should always indicate a blunder. It's not good that I have to explain now that they didn't actually make a fine move the Game Report is just a really bad feature.

I really hope Chess.com sorts this out. But I have faith they will. Love the site.

I want to say that may be changing. Because, even when losing, making a move that is a lot worse should at least be an inaccuracy.

Blundering when losing should still be blundering. The Game Review is so scuffed...

Not necessarily. I used to self-evaluate games the same way, where if the change in evaluation was at a certain level, it was a blunder. However, in cases where the overall evaluation doesn't change, I started counting moves like that as mistakes or inaccuracies instead. The "blunder" doesn't materially change the outcome of the game, but a better move/defense may have held on for longer; to me that isn't so much a blunder as just a mistake.

The definitions, especially in positions with overwhelming evaluations, are very subjective, in most cases.

I can see what you mean, but for sub 1000 rated players if the game is only -3 or -4, blundering their queen is definitely a game changer. Games go back and forth constantly.

I jumped to lichess.  Best part is I never knew it was a community driven open source project.  I just never spent any time there because chess.com was a one-stop destination for me.  I've now set up a local dev server and started to look at the code.  Why bother with this site who seem to be uninterested in feedback if I can help turn the other site into what I want.
