I am in my second game with a worthy opponent.  I sent him a chat message during our first game.  He has yet to respond to it.  I think the reason he has not responded to it is simply that he is not aware there is a chat message from me awaiting him. 

Surely it wouldn't be too hard to provide a feature that gives the recipient of a chat message some form of NOTICE that they have received a chat message.  Perhaps some kind of addition (an asterisk, a plus sign, etc.) to the chat icon that would inform the recipient.

Sending a chat message and not getting any response is more than a little annoying.

There is a notification of chat. Some people just don't want to chat.

Well, on the Live website, there may not actually be a notification; it just shows up in the chat window. If they are in focus mode, I'm not sure what happens.

 

For mobile, I believe there is a red indicator that shows up

Well, I am playing on the live Website.  So I repeat my first comment - how about amending the live Website to include a chat notification?  BTW, I also play on the mobile app, and there is no chat notification of any kind there either.

On the mobile app it could not be more obvious when someone sends me a chat.

I play with chat disabled. for every good egg there is a bad one that I don’t care to hear from and chat is not necessary to play chess. The notifications for chat messages when enabled are more than adequate.

Yes, that's correct. A little red star will show up if there's a new message

And what might those be, pray tell?  I know of no chat notifications that are available on the Web site.  That is why  I started this thread.  If you know how to enable notifications for chat messages on the Website, please tell me how to do it.  Thank you.

With regard to the remainder of your post here, I appreciate your views on chat messages.  Those are your views.  I feel differently.  For example, I live in the U.S.  If my opponent lives in the U.S. also, I want to know his/her time zone so I can get some idea of coordinating a series of moves.  Right now, I am playing someone in the Ukraine.  I suspect you can imagine it might be interesting to chat with someone in the Ukraine right about now.  That kind of stuff.

Anyway, if you know how to enable chat notifications on the Website, please let me know.  And thank you for your comments.

Maybe try sending them a private chat instead?
