Currently, the Chat language filter (that blocks profanities, for example) works great. If a frustrated player types the F word the system blocks it from being transmitted over chat and warns the player.
However, the system also unnecessarily auto-mutes players who repeatedly trigger the language filter. There is no reason to do this. The language filter prevents words that violate ToS from ever being transmitted to another player. So, a ToS violation doesn't actually occur - the electronic guardrails prevent it from occurring. In this circumstance, there's no reason to auto-mute the player.
If the player circumvents the filter, such as by intentionally misspelling a profanity or otherwise *actually* communicating something prohibited, by all means mute the player.
But if the system works as designed, and saves both the player and his opponents and the viewers from receiving prohibited language - chalk that up to player frustration, display the message that it's been blocked and the word isn't acceptable, and end it there.
TL;DR : Don't mute players who type words that get blocked by the language filter. Only mute players who circumvent the language filter.
The reason for the mute is to minimize issues with members trying to keep posting to bypass the feature. Generally speaking, it only happens for repeat attempts to post expletives.
