Checkmate in Daily Game Analysis Board--why?

I like the analysis board built into the Daily Game interface.  It's like having a board on your desk (typical of daily/correspondence games) and you don't have to worry about accidentally having computer analysis turn on while you are testing moves.

But why does the analysis board show checkmate for a prospective move?  It seems like this should be a question only answered by actually playing the move in the game.   I don't believe it's a feature of regular daily/correspondence chess and seems to me a "cheat" of sorts.  It should be a trivial fix.  Just don't display # on the daily analysis board....

That's true. It's also pretty easy to tell if you have any pieces hanging, but people still do it all the time. So basically the checkmate indication is a form of blunder checking.

I don't feel strongly about this. I just thought the feature was odd and not really in keeping with more tradition daily/correspondence play. But maybe nobody cares....

Interesting point. I've also noticed that the checkmate indication on the analysis board feels a bit out of place for traditional correspondence-style play, where independent thinking without hints is more valued. On the other hand, it's just a visual cue — it doesn't suggest moves, only confirms the obvious. Maybe it would make sense to add an option to turn off such hints, so that each player can choose their preferred level of "purity" in analysis.

It doesn't need to be removed. You can also see it in live games with confirm move settings. If your elo is not 100 then you don't need a mark to recognise checkmate

This is an old topic that was revived by a spambot (santiago_454).
