Good point, quality equipment should be used. Speaking of that, do you guys know of any good (meaning not expensive lol) way of connecting some type of display that would tell me how much charge is left in a chess volt battery? The other day my battery died in the middle of the game when I had a winning position, by the time I figured out how to continue playing on the phone my time was almost up and I lost the game. I was furious...

You can just buy a cheap digital multimeter and test the voltage. But you will need to contact the + and - wires somehow, somewhere. These cheap multimeters should be maybe $20 (but I would not use them for more precise/professional work). $20 is cheap. $100 is low cost. Professional ones (by Fluke) are $300 to $500. Scientific ones(by Agilent) are more than $1000. The lower the voltage is, the weaker the battery power is already (but it won't go to zero. For example a 1.5 volt AA battery is maybe 1.6 new, and then 1.3 when "dead").

Thanks centaurme. Multimeter option sounds good, I could use it to check my fish finder battery voltage as well...

If you want to spend around $100 then I suggest the B&K Precision 388B Manual-Ranging Digital Multimeter. Right now it is only $90 on Amazon. The cheap $20 and $30 models are plenty but the build quality is very cheap. The switches and dials might fail after a year or two (like mine did). I use the B&K Precision 388B for most quick tasks, and leave my expensive Fluke meters for more precise work (I would rather blow the fuse on the 388B than my Flukes).

Really nice.  I'm considering modifying a chess table from Amazon to do something similar in my office - I have a little space for a board.  That way, the Millenium board will have its own place, and I can just wheel my chair over for an OTB game online.  I'll post it if I end up doing the project.

Anyone see any more progress of connecting the Millennium KP board support for chess.com on the iOS app?  I have an old android phone that I was able to successfully connect but the connection dropped midgame.  Since I use the iphone and its more recent, I was hoping to be able to play on that device.

I just love the chess.com apps millenium support. Easy to set up and works flawlessly.  Most people have access to an Android Phone or tablet these days. If not, they can be purchased for next to nothing compared to the fantastic Tournament 55 wooden board from millenium happy.png

Well I'll have to figure out the conditions of why my old android phone dropped the game during play, maybe have it up and see if I can tell when it happens.  And be aware and prepared, rather than freak out in a shorter timed game.  Either that or play more on lichess which has better support with the apps.

Note: I did ask Millennium support and they don't have an estimate on when/if ios support will be available.

they need to step it up then for iOS support before they lose people to lichess

Exactly.  You'd think that chess.com would want to put some resources on this significant gap since it is important for a small, but vocal group.  They should be working with the board vendors to ensure that the API is rock solid, or I do think they will lose their chess playing status to Lichess (which I think is a fantastic environment too).

Millenium support is currently great from Chess.com, I think resoruces are probably best used in maintaining and improving current excellent software... Some people will always complain and do not care at all about cross-plattform development... Supporting closed-platforms that have poor compatibility, poor APIs and sub-par openess is a pain for developers, and it will take alot of dev. effort and resources that could be better spent on tthings that actually does work well and is open for cross platform development.

sangahm

How is not having ios support "great"?  I would think that the iphone is a significant base of chess.com users.  And not sure what you consider systems with good API, since Millenium has worked with developers to have drivers for most all of the major apps (Fritz, Arena, etc).

tobeer

Given limitations of resources,  they are best spent to improve festures and functionality of the most widely used and most Open,  developer & rossplatform friendly systems.

If resources are unlimited,  then I agree,  supporting everything and every legacy system is great. But If resources are taken away from major plattforms to support locked in legacy stuff it is a poor tradeoff imho.

For The api aspect I think Millennium as a small company most likely provide great support and their apis are fully Open.  I think Apple support,  api docs and openess is more of an issue.

That makes sense, however there are probably more iphones playing chess.com than other phones (that's debatable since I haven't seen numbers, but it's a good guess).  On top of that, I would go further out on a limb to say that owners of Millenium are mostly iphone users.  So chess.com has a considerable base to appease.

Secondly, if the API's are truly open, then the phone (or desktop) device is irrelevant (see lichess API for reference).  More specifically, it is not chess.com job to develop for a certain platform, but rather make and support an open API that phone and board developers can communicate with (again, see lichess as a good example).

Because of the lack of iPhone support I will be playing ALL standard game on lichess from now  on. Good luck keeping players with bad business ideas.

This sounds like the most confusing thing in the entire world.

I’m in….new board owner. Millennium

centaurme

I should think iOS users have more spending power, generally. I wonder how many Android users actually pay for apps. Anyway, I'm not head of marketing for Chess.com otherwise I would prioritize the highest potential customer segment in the world.

Amonkire

I agree but also have also noticed that apple lags badly in chess period.

I thought the Luxe cabinet had a swivel built-in but it does not.  Something the Millennium engineers should have thought of.  Maybe some people can play black from across the table but I don't think I could.  I just googled a lazy Susan style turntable that is big enough to hold the whole Luxe setup or just the board and there are 12" and 16" sizes available from $10-$25.  For those of us that are "maker" or woodworker challenged, that's an effective turnkey solution.
