Consistent site crash during the first game of the day

This is a recent development - and only happens for the very first game of the day:
I load chess.com and as soon as the page loads I hit "play 5 minutes". This then takes me into a game. If I'm black I usually can see white's move but as soon as I try to make my move, the site becomes unresponsive (sometimes tries to crash my entire edge browser) and takes more than 20s to recover by which point I've forfeited the game. Any future games for the day are perfectly fine.

It's been happening for 2 or 3 weeks now.

I don't see that anyone else is reporting similar problems. The typical site recommendation for unexplained technical glitches is to clear your browser cache and restart the browser.

Why not try the Chrome browser?

I have the exact same problem. I don't know if it's related to my browser (opera gx) or my pc, but i lost several games due to this crash.

Same thing happens when i play on chesscom website on chrome on my mobile,,

so frustrating, seems like chesscom cannot handle the load it has with stockfish engine and it's own chesscom website features

not everything is cache issue, i don't even save cache by playing on incognito,

but still the first gameplay whether mine or someone else's always crashes,,

i have to watch someone's game through "watch games" section before i shift to playing my own.

It's one of the adblockers. I don't believe chess.com is doing it on purpose as well since it's happening on different sites, it's just some/few of the adblockers + edge don't mix very well.

Scarlet_Evans

I have problem with "the first game" after opening the mobile browser since at least months, if not more.

If I go into Play and quickly start a game, it freezes at the beginning of the game, for something like 15-20 seconds, often making me lose significant amount of time (I play 3+0 minute games) or (usually) just abort the game, sometimes even with a warning....

I sometimes avoid it by going into Play and wait like 30 seconds without doing nothing, so the freeze triggers before I start the game, but it's not only a waste of time, but I sometimes forget about it too, as it can happen multiple times per day...

I turned off adblock and still the same. First game and Chrome browser freezes.

Yeah it still happens. You need to remove them altogether try it in an incognito tab to test
