I get the red banner for something totally legitimate. When I hit POST....the red banner says, "That was an old form"....and takes you back to page 1 of the thread. If I just repeat the process, it goes threw the 2nd time. Martin,....I know there's a 5 posts limit, but is there a TIME to that limit?.....12 hrs?.....1 day?.....1 week?
I get that occasionally. Not sure what actually causes that one.
That is usually the server losing track of a client transaction/form and not being able to verify that it's valid anymore after X period of time...it's a stopgap measure to avoid stuff like spoofed SQL injection attacks, etc.
I have heard a rumor that there's been some kind of DDoS attack going on...so lowering the timer on forms might be an extra precaution, or it might be a consequence of performance/load.

That banner predates the recent issues with being attacked. I rarely see it, so have never tried figuring out why it happens when it does.

Yes, the form submission timeout would definitely be a longstanding feature...I'm saying that the frequency that it is being seen right now might be related to changed circumstances.
I'm pretty sure that isn't the case and I haven't seen those banners in any increased amounts in the past week.

it happens for me on the phone, normally because of the touchscreen when scrolling etc.
Any good chess coach can tell you that practicing against weakened engines is a great way to cultivate errors that will inhibit your skill development. Nonetheless, developing these harmful distractions remains the site’s top priority.

Oh, have accidentally voted on content before due to that.
I wanted to use the adjective reta*d, but feared its possible function as a pejorative noun could result in punishment from that bot that still needs to be shackled, hobbled, or otherwise rendered impotent. It’s demonstrated incompetence continues to stifle discourse.
looks like the `last online` status on profiles isn't working anymore?
It was working off and on yesterday but has been reported to staff and they're looking into it.
I'd like to know, has staff ever showed up in the forums? Like I know that there are things that staff must do on this site, but will you ever see them show up in the forums?
I look back at threads from 2007, and some of them have a lot where @Erik posted a lot, but I don't see much of that anymore.
Is there a specific place to contact staff, like if so, where should I go?

That hasn’t happened since @kohai became inactive
Other staff will show in the forums occasionally, though sometimes it's from being referred to a topic by moderators.
Beware the day when incompetence gets added to the no-no word list
Right! There's also a rumour that the and a will be put on that list soon. Double plus good!
But no need to fear: the word counting will never be banned. Otherwise all those wonderful counting threads which enrich this site would disappear, and that would be tragic.

Somewhere in this world are very proud parents.

The flag from previous mute may not, but I think the banner and time between banners should. For example, if you get the banner, and try reposting the same content, that would be a mute. If you edit the content but miss something, that would also.
If you get the banner, edit out the problem text, and get another banner a week later, that should not generate a mute.
It's possible that there's a bug in the code that's not clearing it correctly.
The problem with what you say is that the red warning banner doesn't specify which word or words have triggered the alarm. So we can try to edit a post, repost it, and still get muted because whatever the "offending" word was is still there.

wow. it's pathetic that cc is introducing garbage like this while not fixing the faults.
@RonaldJosephCote that account has been handled.
