for staff, a must read

I got a week long auto-mute (lifted by staff the next day after contacting them) for naughty language in a PM to a friend who is in the Open Discussion club, ironically, where all the forbidden topics here are allowed there. It was a totally friendly casual conversation, and when the red banner came up, I removed what words I thought triggered it, apparently at least 1 was still in there so got muted when sending again. It's ridiculous. You can't even reference something outside the forum using a forbidden word. Meanwhile the astronomical number of spammers/trolls can flood the forums with 100 topics per day and nothing ever gets done. One of those threads is up to 125,000 posts. Moreover, sometimes it's almost impossible to figure out what word is triggering it so there's a good chance the word is still in there the 2nd time. I got warned once for using the evolutionary term for early humans. I dont know who they think they are protecting with these insane filters. Just as much a pseuoscience as protecting teens from the "trauma" of playing mature video games. At least the staff member gave me 15 days of free premium membership after conversing with them and also offering a few other ideas that could help improve the site (both chess and forum stuff), which I was thanked for and supposedly a couple of my ideas are being passed on to the team.

Wow! On one of the spamming threads @Pianojames locked he said to DM him if other spam threads come up. I just took him up on that sending him a link to "Free Spamming Forum!". Literally 2min later he locked it.
Props to James for taking out the garbage. That's the way to moderate. Take action when members are helping out and pointing you in the direction of issues that need attention.
while that is impressive (and, yes, well done pianoman), this should be closer to the norm than an unexpected aberration.

I can't get rid of an alert for a thread that no longer exists.
Clear Alerts doesn't work?

I have never heard of one sticking around that long. They are loaded from the back-end server and one that old should have been purged well before now. If you are seeing it on your device, try clearing your browser cache.

"They are loaded from the back-end server"..... A lot of old threads are scheduled for colonoscopies. Chess.com is WAY over booked for appointments. It may be fixed by Christmas, but there are cancerous polyps all over the place.

The Activity section hasn't been added back yet to the homepage

Awwww.... I was dying to read that wondrous thread. It promised to yield so much valuable information!

it was there for me two days ago when notes did not appear. now notes appear and activity doesn't. i would not be surprised if the opposite happens the next time i log in.
both should appear for all members, as they have in the past. now, i'm going to vent here, martin, but, rest assured, my ire is not directed at you. i'd like staff to read our issues and fix these things.
for years, notes and activity were available on anyone's home page. it has been months since this has been screwed up. i was once told that server limitations required the absence of activity due to new features. in other words, the site determined that new features were more important than existing functions.
perhaps you can use your connections and tell us when the site will return to the regular functions many were used to for years.
