Ideas for new coach dialogue

  • "The [piece] is now trapped and will be captured on the next move." Self-explanatory.
  • "This move sets up an interesting trap." For moves that may not be good, but threaten something nasty if the opponent does the desired move.
    • "You fell for your opponent's trap!"
  • "This forces the opponent to do X." For the rare situation when a player only has one legal move, and that one move is problematic for the opponent.
    • Alternatively: "Your opponent has only a few legal moves, but all of them are good."
  • "This allows the opponent to force a draw." When a game becomes completely equal in the endgame.
    • "[Color] was winning, but now the game is a draw."
    • "You found the only drawing move in a losing position!"
    • "You missed an opportunity to salvage a draw from this position."
  • "Be careful! You accidentally stalemated your opponent." For stalemates that occur because the winning side made a critical mistake.
  • "This seems like an equal trade, but it actually hurts you." For equal trades that...aren't.
    • "Trading down material when you have more pieces leads to winning endgames."
    • "Trading down material when you have fewer pieces is not a good idea."
  • "Castling is not always a good move." For those rare moments where 0-0/0-0-0 is a blunder.

That's all I can think of right now. Feel free to chime in with other ideas!
