Is the iOS app or Android app better?

I’m just curious about this, because I want to know the pros and cons of each, and which is better, according to the players who play on each one. My understanding is that the Android app has numerous features that iOS doesn’t, but I might be missing something? What do y’all think? *Please no war.*

Hey @GraysonKellogg 👋

Great question — and no worries, no app wars here 😄

Both the iOS and Android apps are great overall, but there are a few subtle differences between them:

📱 Android Pros

  • Often gets new features slightly earlier (like expanded variant support or experimental settings)

  • A bit more customizable in terms of notifications and background processing

  • Easier access to debug info/logs for troubleshooting if you're tech-savvy

🍏 iOS Pros

  • Generally feels smoother and more stable on some devices

  • Slightly better battery optimisation

  • UI animations tend to feel a little more polished due to Apple’s system rendering

🤝 Both apps are actively supported and regularly updated by Chess.com. The differences aren't huge — it's mostly down to device preference, but you're right that Android sometimes gets minor feature flexibility first.

Hope that helps! Would love to hear from others too 🙌
