Just one day and I already miss Chess24 for watching live events

The Chess24 interface was no frills, but it showed so much information at a glance and was easy to navigate to keep tabs on multiple games/matches in an event.

The Chess.com interface is much busier and yet it conveys much less information and (so far) I haven't found it easy to navigate.
Granted, I was not particularly fond of the way the Chess24 events page rendered on my phone, but I rarely did that. A phone is far from ideal for that sort of thing. . I haven't checked out what it's like with the Chess.com app on my phone yet.
(To be clear, I'm a long-time user/member of Chess.com. There is a lot that I like. But for events, I have preferred Chess24 ever since I first found my way there. )

Yeah. Sheer corporate greed on the part of chess.com to buy out and shut down chess24. Chess is worse because of it.

Danny Rensch posted one month ago on Reddit, referencing a clip from June 2023 that said Chess.com would keep Chess24 online:

Hey everyone, I just want to jump in and say that I meant every word in that clip. I was saying exactly what Chess.com intended to do at the time. I completely understand people's feelings of frustration. We will all miss the C24 event portal, but I want you to know the pivot away from our initial intention was not "always the plan".

As we integrated C24, we learned a lot. The most important thing we learned is that the team is incredible! There are many fantastic people who built C24, and we are thrilled to have so many contributing in key roles now at Chess.com. Another thing we learned is that much of the C24 tech was aging and costly - something both Chess.com and C24 team members agree on together. The C24 events viewer was built in 2014, and the developer who built it moved on in 2016. Since then, it's not been possible to build on that technology and some bugs have even become unfixable.

Perhaps the best analogy I can use for all of us as chess players :) is that sometimes in a chess game you have a plan, you believe in that plan, and you're ready to execute and see the victory through! But then new information emerges as the game develops, and you see that your idea isn't going to work against proper defense! We've all gone for bad combinations before, but if you have the full picture and the time on the clock to adjust your strategy, you should do so. The new plan is that while the C24 main site will go away, C24's mission and "brand" will live on in the content and social channels. And, we are taking the best features from the C24 event viewer and the community's feedback and bringing them over to Chess.com as quickly as possible.

I appreciate the community holding us accountable here. We had a vision for C24, but we had to make different moves as the position on the board changed. That said, the team members of both Chess.com and C24 are more committed than ever to our shared vision(s) for chess and what we do together.

Our goals to serve the community, grow the game, and make sure that Chess.com is the best place in the world to work remain and always will.
