Losing by abandonment

I don't get why this feature is implemented. When my opponents rage quit i have to wait until theirs time runs up, but if i have temporary disconnection i am losing nearly instantly even in slow time control with increment. Is this any rage quit mechanism? If so i could just open new tab and keep tab with game running.
My point is that if:
1) i rage quit -> i can do it in a undetected way simply by keeping tab running
2) i lose connection -> its very likely i'll be back soon, even if i don't you still have to deal with players who suddenly deliberately refuse to move from whatever reason
Problem with players who cant/don't want to continue game cannot be universally solved, so why don't leave it that way instead of picking on players who have connection issue. Wouldn't be that more consistent?

btw. overall my connection is good and breaks very very rarely

Most people who abandon their losing games don't leave the tab open.  They close the window.

To chess.com, it looks the same as for those who inadvertently lose their connections.

It is unfortunate that people who seldomly lose their connections get lumped in but the policy has ended the games we used to get where the opponent would disconnect and reconnect 20 times during a game and has enabled chess.com to identify and punish those who do it repeatedly

Sounds a bit like a Catch-22 situation
