tried playing Mittens after I saw the WSJ article. Ruined chess for me for a few days. Getting destroyed in less than 25 moves kinda takes the fun out of it.

Guess what?! For an extremely limited time (a couple of days) you can play Mittens in an April Fool's incarnation. It's called Anish Mittens, and appears to be rated at least 2700, according to the review analysis when I played it.
