Why not?
Originally Bishops were Elephants. This site should make that an option when playing.

Originally the "indian chess" was not "modern chess". Therefore it was not an elephant. Modern chess is more european-ized, and they liked religion, so it's a bishop.

That's my point, there are many "ages" of chess, Indian, Persian, Russian, European...
So it'll be cool to track down the name's and shapes of the pieces used and feature them here. Is not different than changing the color of the pieces and the boards.

Not much to say.
Originally India didn't have Bishops, so the piece in its place was the Elephant. Chess.com should make the Elephant available and have an option to play with Elephants instead of Bishops.
As @SNUDOO mentions, that is not "Chess" that is the ancestor game Chess came from; they are two different games - although similar. That ancient Indian game is called "Chaturanga."
If you are in chess.com beta testing then you would know that Chaturanga is a future chess.com variant they are working on That is even better than Elephant pieces isn't it?

there is a chanturaga variant already.
