Puzzles Not Working? Points seem to be off

Hey guys,

past two days every time I get a puzzle correct I get 5 - 7 points (usually get more than that), and when it's wrong I lose 11 - 15 points . . .   I get three right and then one wrong and I go down to the same score I started with . . .   this wasn't happening before (just got back into puzzles over the past six weeks and get 25 puzzles a day on my plan). . . is there a shift in points?

If you look at your puzzle archive, you'll see that your getting puzzles that are a lot lower than your current rating. Solving those correctly will give fewer points.

I'm having the same problem. The thing is that lower rated puzzles are the only ones we're getting and the time given to solve them is a lot lower, resulting in a big loss of points if you get it wrong. This should be fixed.

I also feel that there is some sort of calibration on puzzle ratings going on.

My rating was around 2000 and I would usually get puzzles with ratings between 1600-1900 (+some outliers), but today the maximum rating I saw was 1491, and the average lies around 1250, which is way below my current rating.

It might be the case that the puzzle ratings got downgraded, but from my observation, the puzzles I got today was quite easy so there may be something to fix indeed.

I've been having the same issue the past couple days. I'm around 2100-2200 on average, and yet the past couple days I've only been getting puzzles in the 1200-1500 rating range. You need to be almost perfect to not lose rating when you're getting puzzles this much lower than your rating. I've been getting around 70% right and have still lost rating. It's very frustrating and makes it almost impossible to climb

Same here. Just hit 3000 and since been getting mainly ~2200s (even a 1500 yesterday). Haven't seen a single 2800+ despite getting several per day last week

SnikwaHB

I have another observational thing to add. I'm now ~1600 puzzles but I'm being given 850. As you get more puzzles right in a row, the rating of them increases. I got 11 right in a row, and the 11th puzzle was rated just above 1300. I got that one wrong though and the next puzzle was back to being 850.

I know there was another thread a couple days ago under a different section also talking about this issue.

supware

SnikwaHB I feel like this is a coincidence (though I don't know ofc!). After 11 puzzles you're likely to get an outlier either way

Actually I take that back! This is consistent with my own recent stats. They almost always increase per win before dropping back after a loss, interesting

I've noticed this also over the last couple of days.  I have a puzzle rating of 2400-2500 and I've only been getting 1700-1800 puzzles on the website.  Interestingly enough when I do puzzles on the iOS app it seems more typical of what I had been seeing with puzzles around 1900-2200 most common...so now I have no motivation to do puzzles on the website and just do them on the app as I have greater rewards for getting them right and less penalty for getting them wrong

Agreed.  Seems overly manipulated.  Here's my recent history.  As you can see, I'm a very slow puzzle player.

The forums are primarily read by other members. However, staff have been alerted to these topics and are aware of the feedback.

Here's another example of problems within Puzzles.  +5 is an incorrect award for an 86% Speed Bonus for a Puzzle rated at 1781.  Something must have changed in the algorithm.  If I took 2 hours to correctly solve this puzzle, the speed bonus would be 70% and I would still get +5 points.  Additional examples can be seen in my previous post here, in the bottom 5 or so Puzzles listed.

Thank you!! yes! I thought I was going crazy . . .

My plan is 25 puzzles a day. I won 20 and lost 5 and basically ended up same score . . . -18 points for loss, +5 for win . . . I hope they fix it.

There shouldn't be more than one way in most, but if you see one where there is, the shortest line is the correct one.

I've never seen this on this site, can you give an example? (I've never even seen a fastest mate themed puzzle!)

rizek2006

I know that I must solve the shortest one, but when they are same lenght?

supware

Yeah I've never seen that here
