I understand that mods on chess.com's youtube livestreams are also moderators for a number of chess.com affiliate channels, such as chess24, or in this case, Magnus Carlsen's youtube channel.
This is a complaint about a mod, SLK Chess. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcCeaO_l73ZhOwuhO2vIuvA
Today, SLK Chess was assigned to moderate Magnus' youtube stream for the CCT finals (Carlsen vs Nepo) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvERBwsjn0o
Several people throughout the entire stream, myself included, complained about the unordinary 3 minute chat cooldown. SLK chess not only ignored this request but instead increased the cooldown to 5 minutes. This caused several more complaints. SLK Chess ignored all of them.
Previous days, this cooldown was limited to at most, 1.5 minutes during the highest volume of viewers. Today's view count was consistent with all other days.
I understand higher chat cooldowns are utilized for streams with a large number of viewers to better moderate the chat. However, this stream had about 15K-20K viewers, and 5 minutes is too long! This negatively impacts viewer engagement and our ability to discuss the game as it unfolds. Frankly, I am familiar with SLK Chess from several past streams and this seems to be an unfortunate pattern.
When asked directly about why the cooldown was 5 minutes, and being ignored several times, SLK Chess finally responded with his reasoning: "chat is being bad."
This is a little ridiculous. No other mod from any of the previous days had an issue moderating chat while also enforcing the rules with much lower, or no chat cooldown timer. But SLK Chess seems to be unable or unwilling to do the same. They were also not willing to discuss this reasoning further, or address the requests from viewers to allow us to chat more frequently, therefore I'm posting my concerns here. It's hard to discuss critical moments of the game when you can only reply once every 5 minutes, as I'm sure most would agree.
I would kindly request that SLK Chess is no longer be assigned to Magnus' channel. Again, I've tried addressing this with SLK directly, numerous times, both thru youtube and discord, but they are completely unwilling to discuss it further.
