Danny Rensch is an acquired taste. First time I saw him I was like you thinking what an obnoxious clown. Eventually you begin to appreciate his energy level and his commitment to entertaining the audience. I wish he'd do more commentating actually, but he's pretty busy helping to run this place.
Sorry Danny Rensch

I feel I agree with you (except the desire for him to do more commentating). His level of energy and commitment is great but it interferes with his work. I know nothing personal about Danny, he definitely has a place in the chess-commentating world. I just get bummed out when I see that he's doing that particular day of the Chess World Cup.
Not much as site feedback, but this is about feedback for chess.com online commentary. Maybe there's a better place to discuss this. First off, I'm an American and most of my chess tournament watching had been from the St. Louis Chess Club and Chess.com YouTube (and some chess24).
I simply cannot stand Danny Rensch. I get it that his style is word-play, dad jokes, etc. Mixed with his fun personality, he is more of a distraction. On the opposite end, Robert Hess is my overall favorite commentator/analyst. Yassir is sadly IMO on the decline. His main contributions are his stories of times past.
These are my top 5 in no specific order (there is some ranking bias though)
1. Robert Hess
2. Peter Svidler
3. Alejandro Ramirez
4. Ben Feingold
5. Yassir Sierwan
Honorable mention goes to Judit Polgar. I've only seen her do one tournament but her balancing of advanced and beginner/intermediate analysis was great. I'm not a fan of Jan Gustafsson, but I have nothing against him. It's just his accent, speed of talking, and sometime he rambles. But I think the community has high regard.
I do believe there is some distinction between "play-by-play", commentary and analysis roles but my ratings are generalizations.
