Suggestion for develops regarding "Conditional Moves"

It would be nice if you could add a symbol in Conditional Moves meaning "any legal move." For example, let's say my opponent's king is trapped in giant box created by queen, and I only have to move my pawn (which is outside the queen's box) to have it become a second queen. It would be nice to have a symbol or button which means "any valid move by your opponent." You could then answer it with your own valid move. It would save a lot of time, especially with opponents who don't resign. I once created a list of 20 conditional moves to a mate my opponent couldn't avoid. It would have been much easier if I didn't have to account for every move he made, when it would make no difference to the finale of the game.

I don't think you're understanding my question. I understand premise daily. What I would like to have is a feature that would encompass every single legal move of an opponent. So no matter what move your opponent made, if it was legal, you could then make your singular move. Again, for example, if I knew I had a mate in four no matter what my opponent did, I would like to have a universal premove that would take into account all his possible live moves. Let's say his king was trapped and he had five pawns on the other side of the board. It didn't matter what those pawns did, it would still be mate in four. Instead of having to create 8 premove time lines (where each of those pawns moved out 1 or 2 squares) followed by my move (which would be the same no matter what), it would be nice to have a way to say no matter what legal move my opponent makes, _this_ will be my next move.

That's what a premove is.  It is an move whose only condition is that it be legal.

I beg your pardon. I apologize if I seem thick-headed (I probably am), but I’m not quite sure you're understanding me. I understand a premove is a move I can make with my own pieces as long as it's legal. I can then premove my opponent's piece on the board on condition that it be legal. What I want to do is premove _all_ of my opponent's legal moves so that I can make a move based upon any of them.

Quick example:

Let's say I'm playing a five day game. I start as white. My opponent is black. I move e4, he moves e5. He's now gone off-line. I open Preconditional Moves and enter a3.

The next move _I_ want to play after a3 (no matter what move he makes in reply to a3), is a4. In order to do this, I would have to enter 29 lines with my opponent's premove before I could play a4. For example:

LINE 1

          a6
a4

LINE 2
          a5
a4

LINE 3
          b6
a4

LINE 4
          b5
a4

LINE 5
          Kf6
a4

Etc. Do you see what I'm saying? In response to my move a3, black can play 29 legal moves: all pawns up 1 rank, all pawns up 2 ranks, knights to four different squares, queen  to 4 different squares, bishop to 5 different squares, and the king to 2 squares (b7 or b6).

I would have to manually create 29 lines in Preconditional Moves (every possible move my opponent could make after I played a3) and only then enter my next wanted move: a4

What would be great and time saving is if there were a special symbol that included all of your opponents possible legal moves after you've moved. Hypothetically, let's stay it's the dollar sign. "$"

Now all I would have to do is write one line in Preconditional Moves:

LINE 1
          $
a4

Then, no matter what my opponent moved (if it was a legal move), I would then automatically premove a4. He could move his Queen to G5, my pawn would still go to a4. He could move his knight to H6, my pawn would automatically go to a4. The only thing that would stop my premoves, where if he were to take my pawn on a3 with his bishop. Then the system would stop and return to the game. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for your time.

Yes! I would love this option, especially for pawn promotions.

It would be great to have this option, just a premove option like live play not dependent on the oppositions move. Like the OP I’ve had times I’ve ended up putting about 15 premove options in to complete a forcing sequence. (I understood what you meant 😊)

An any move option has been requested since I've been here and likely longer. I don't know if that's something that is super low priority, or just not going to be implemented.

Thanks Martin for the official input. You could be right in that they don't want people to delve too much into conditional moves. Otherwise, us players with a lot of time on their hands would be just sitting there for hours. wink

I ended up asking. It is on the roadmap, just that other projects have been taking priority.
