I was wrong, the ads are back again with the same severity.  Tried to play against the computer with no luck.  Got about 6 moves in and poof I get redirected to another page.  I've been a "tick" member for almost 2 years and never had this problem until about a month ago.  This site is my internet home page.  At least is was my home page.  It feels like I'm being bullied by ads.  I don't mind the ads on the page itself, its the ones that kick me off the page that infuriate me.  It ruins any fun I was having.  Usually I just turn my computer off.

Why do I need an adblocker all of a sudden just to use this site?  I'm not having this issue with other sites I use.

Just now got redirected off this page while trying to post these 3 sentences.

Why don't you just pony up $29 and get a Life.  Works out to $0.08/day.

That's exactly what I did. Using another site is the easiest and simplest solution. They dont have those problems so it doesn't make sense to spend money on something that other sites have figured out how to avoid in the first place.

Do you really think that Chess.com will do anything to make your problem go away? I don't think so. So, you're going to have to do something. Several options have been given by others...

U dont need to spend money on an adblocker. Its free...

Yes, but a paid subscription to chess.com is not free. Other sites have figured out how to avoid this problem without having to charge for it.

RedGirlz is correct, even I use an ad blocker.

There are some paid versions around as well, but majority of them still remain free.

ibeerby's possible choices:

1) Suffer in silence with the present situation.

2) Leave Chess.com for another site.

3) Install an adblocker.

4) Pay the protection money...er, I mean, pay for premium membership.

5) Continue using Chess.com while complaining about the present situation (his current choice - not sustainable in the long term.)

6) Chess.com proactively fixes the problem - Not bloody likely!

Did I overlook any options?

I appreciate everyone's opinions.  I use this site for entertainment.  Since it is no longer entertaining  me I will just stop using it.  I've already spent too much time on this issue as it is.

I'll use the time that I was spending here on something else.  Possibly towards getting a life (as suggested by some).

Except that right now with the coronavirus running rampant, you might not want to get a life - you might want to spend more time online. :-)

I hope I didn't give you too much of a hard time; I was just trying to help you solve your problem. I really think an adblocker would be a good solution. For example, "uBlock Origin" - You can configure it to block only one site, or even just one page on a site.

Good luck in whatever choice you make.

Opera browser is good for chess.com- free VPN and adblocker.

Well, I'm not sure I'd trust Opera any more, since the original owner sold his stake to the Chinese a few years back.
