sport should unite, not divide. russian and belarusian chess players are not guilty of the invasion of ukraine in the same way that ukrainian chess players are not guilty of the massacres of russian citizens during the donbass war prior to the invasion.
chess is neither a political forum nor a court of international justice, so keep out of matters that have nothing to do with the game of chess. The soviets, and in particular the Russians, have made history in this discipline. a chess tournament without Russian participation is unthinkable.
