The coach failed math btw it says your streak is (whatever number it feels like saying) when it's not when your on classic mode

Puzzles will penalize you if you make a not-winning move instead of a winning move. Yes.
You comment suggests that you need to choose between 2 good options. That's never the case. In puzzles, there is only one good move. Other moves don't win.
