Why does Chess.com not have verified accounts still?

I'm not talking about Chess.com's attempt 2 years ago trying to copy Twitter
I'm talking about a free, optional choice to verify accounts with phone numbers, then simply prioritize matchmaking verified users.
It's a very simple idea that is common practice in most competitive video games nowadays to combat cheating. I can't think of any downsides. But in an online game that arguably has the easiest access to cheating, I don't see this feature still.

There is an option for linking a phone number but it's not used for pairing.

That said, the perception of cheating levels is orders of magnitude more than the actual amount. The vast majority of games and players are clean.
