Actually, now I tried to uncheck that box (and I really don't think that I could possibly have 'done it wrong') and someone just sent me a friends request anyway...
Well, I accepted it, let's see if I ever play the guy/girl again :)
(Live Chess friends and Chess.com friends are the same friends, right? I mean, it's not like there's a different setting for Live Chess or anything..?)

I would like to be able to automatically decline all friends requests (or, at least, not be informed of them) and would like to know what staff members - and other site members - feel about this.
Maybe this seems as the wish of a bitter man; however, my experience of Live Chess - where I, almost exclusively, play all my games - is unfortunately that a lot of players would like to be your friend (for no apparent reason), then you neither hear from them, or play them, ever again. Even if we have some nice games and talk about crap :) and have some nice times together, we usually never speak or play again, not even if I challenge them to a game.
The consequense is that I now feel like I have to explain to everyone, how come I don't wish to become their chess.com friend, and I feel kind of rude about it. I realize that I don't need to explain anything, it's just a desperate attempt to be 'courteous', I guess.
I just think it would be more comfortable if the option to automatically decline friends requests was there, so, think about what your opinion is on this matter, and let me know!
