Blocking feature not working

I've blocked 2 players so far, but they are still able to join my games. Call me a stickler, but when I block someone shouldn't they... uhm, be blocked?

baddogno

That's how it's supposed to work. Laughing

Once blocked, a member cannot do any of the following:

  • post notes to your account
  • send you messages
  • accept your game seeks
  • be auto-matched with you in open seeks
  • join tournaments that you are running
  • post in content that you created
Nunyanunya

Oddly, the person I blocked is still able to accept my game seeks. Not a major crisis, just annoying.

wanmokewan

I believe you need to log out of live chess then log back in before a block actually takes effect.

Nunyanunya

Yes, I have checked that the person I intended to block is on my Blocked User List in the Privacy settings. I have not encountered the same player lately. Perhaps it is necessary to log out and back in as Wanmokewan intimated. If I encounter the blocked player again I will let you know. As of now though, it appears to be working.

Nunyanunya

Well... it happened again, except this time I made it a point to log out and back in. What's the point of a block feature if it doesn't block? Now I am stuck running time out until this person wins a game I did not want to play to begin with. And this site wants my money? Figure it out already, the incompetence is laughable.

Nunyanunya

Blocking feature still not working. Such a surprise considering past customer service response. Let's hope the Chess.com help and support team isn't heading the Ebola crisis... else we'd all be dead by now. I'll keep you updated on the blocking feature fix progress, I suspect I'll be reporting no fix for some time to come.

baddogno

Unfortunately if it's broke over here (V2), it ain't gonna get fixed.  All the programming resources are being devoted to the long overdue V3.

Nunyanunya

Still... block doesn't block. I put players on block, they still continue to join my games. What is it with this company? If you don't care to offer a functional block feature, then don't. However, if you are going to give the impression you do have a blocking feature, then it should work. It shouldn't work some of the time, it shouldn't work if you do it this way or that - if you finesse it... if it ask it nicely... no, block means block, period.

So once again, why doesn't the block feature block people from your games?

wanmokewan

Is your block list full?

No, it is not. I've tried using both Chrome and Mozilla Firefox with all add-ons disabled. No Ad-Aware blocker either. There's no reason it shouldn't work. It appears to work only if enough time has gone by, for example a day, then I never have a problem with that blocked player joining my games again because they appear to be blocked, but again, only after a certain period of time has elapsed.

I right-click their name and choose the "Block" option in the drop-down menu, then confirm I want to block them by selecting 'OK.' I've done it the other way as well going into my privacy settings and manually typing in their player name and blocking them that way. Still to no avail, they are able to join my games immediately after blocking them. I've tried logging out and then back in, still to no avail.

Care to do an experiment?  If yes, can you lower your privacy settings to allow messages?

Sure

I'm sorry, one last thing and then I'll let this rest.  Do you get a pop up confirmation to block someone?

Like this?

Yep, and I click OK and the next thing you know... that person I just "Confirmed" I wanted blocked is joining my games. I'll abort the game because I do not wish to play them. I'll create a new game challenge and they will join that game too. I will again abort because I don't want to play them (obviously, I blocked them, so why would I want to play them?) I once again create a new game seek, and guess who, that's right, the player I just blocked 3 aborted games ago.

And to top it off, they join my 4th game seek and I have not the ability to abort the game anymore as per the "Fair Play" policy. So I am stuck playing someone I didn't want to play to begin with, otherwise, if I resign I have to take the loss. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

Walter, I see your first post is five months prior. These forums are informative only if other members can help. Staff help, posting here, or, in help & support, is rarely seen. Your best bet is to contact them directly, here: https://support.chess.com/

Good luck, and, take it easy on Donny.

Hmm, I don't suppose they're on your friends' list?  That might cancel any blocking efforts.
