Chess.com Computers
chessmaster, I think the Easy and the Medium computers are even lower than that. They sacrifice things for no reason.
yeah the easy computer traded a queen for a pawn

chessmaster102: Yes, it is a good teaching tool. But it's pretty hilarious when an opponent rated 34 easily sidesteps your 6-move mating combo, haha.

a 1200 does not understand tactics.
HEY!! That is not fair to say! I'm under 1200 USCF (1109 CXR and 923 USCF) and I understand tactics completely!!!

Then why are you under 1200 USCF?

It could be like you don't know any openings or study endgame.

I'm sixteen and have a life... I choose not to devote my life to chess. I don't EVER study openings but I am good at endgames... Also, scholastic players are ripped off about 200 rating points which means that I play as well as a 1300 rated adult player... so get off my @$$...

Not at all, it is just not even a GM could completely understand tactics, so neither could you.

Look... I understand that a GM can "COMPLETELY" understand tactics... I know that I cannot "COMPLETELY" understand tactics... it was a figure-of-speech....
BTW. I was wrong about the 200 rating points. Its really 400 rating points in which we are screwed!

Look at the "Hard" computer. It generally plays at a rating between 1500-1700. To get it to play at that level, it has to make some mistakes on occassion.
If you've played it a lot, you realize that sometimes it can seem pretty easy to beat, and sometimes it's difficult. That's because to stay within that same rating range of 1500-1700, it will play pooly for a while, drop a lot of rating points, and then it will begin to play well again and gain points. If you catch it on the way down, it sometimes makes silly mistakes that drop a piece, etc. If you catch it on the way up, it feels like you are playing a player rated much better than 1700.
The Only computers are on Live. Anyway, I wish Chess.com would put "Theory" in their Computers because I have seen several Opening choices like g4, f4, c3 that just really complicate things for both sides. Sticking to Opening Theory will allow the Computers to have consistency. It might also lead to a stronger or higher rating.
